Upper Grand River Metropark
ABOUT
Upper Grand River Metropark covers 135 acres along Cork Cold Springs Road in Austinburg, Ohio. Once a youth and religious camp, including a Camp Fire Girls Camp in the 1950s, the property has been transformed into a wildlife and river sanctuary. It now preserves three-quarters of a mile of Grand River frontage within a bend of the State Scenic River, situated between the Morgan Swamp Preserve and Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark.
The park is permanently safeguarded through a conservation easement with the Western Reserve Land Conservancy and is subject to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Scenic Rivers Program. Funding from ODNR’s Paddling Enhancement Grant and ODOT’s Biennium Fund supported the development of public parking, improvements to existing trails, and installation of a river access trail and boat launch.
Today, Upper Grand River Metropark is a haven for soaring forests, wetlands, unusual wildflowers, and abundant wildlife. Future development is planned to expand visitor amenities, including picnic shelters, meeting spaces, and additional trails.
